1. All aboard the Oregon Polar Express
That’s right, Portland has it’s very own Polar Express! Portland’s world-famous steam locomotive, the SP 4449 invites you on a 45-minute winter wonderland ride alongside the Willamette River. Your ride will give back as proceeds benefit the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation’s mission to build a new home for Portland’s three steam locomotives. Christmas Festival of Lights at The Grotto
The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights is one not to miss! Now through the end of the year, the largest Christmas choral festival in the world will fill Portland’s beloved grotto with the sounds of holiday music.
Featuring over two million lights and nightly indoor holiday concerts performed by many of the region’s finest schools, churches, and civic choirs, this festival bring hope, fun, and holiday cheer. Clackamas County Winter Fair
Head over to the Clackamas County Winter Fair for a 166 foot walk through tunnel, 200 foot building light display and a 30 minute Christmas tree show. Visit Santa in Santa’s Village. Children 10 and under are FREE. More information and tickets can be found here.
Christmas on the Campground
The Apostolic Faith Church welcomes you to drive by or take a stroll past their Christmas Campground on Duke Street to enjoy thousands of lights, a life-size nativity, and the tallest decorated Christmas tree in Southeast Portland! Lights will be on daily from dusk to dawn, beginning Thanksgiving weekend and through the end of the year. Get into the holiday spirit with seasonal music playing from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each evening and lights with be on daily from dusk till dawn through end of the year! Click here for directions.

Winter Wonderland
A Christmas in Portland is not complete without a trip to Winter Wonderland! Located at the Portland International Raceway, Winter Wonderland is recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest as the “Largest Holiday Light Show West of the Mississippi.” Festival goers can enjoy the most spectacular drive-through light show in the region from the comfort of their own vehicles, viewing over 250 colorful light set pieces and many fully animated scenes along the way.
Keen cyclists and dog lovers can enjoy special themed nights like Bike the Lights night and Light the Leashes Night! Also open on Christmas Eve and Christmas day and New Years!
Zoolights
One of Oregon’s most popular holiday traditions is the Zoolights! Located in the Oregon Zoo in
Portland’s Washington Park.
This Year Zoolights is offering both walk-through and drive-through experiences! Visitors will be dazzeled by over 1.5 million lights, walk and drive through tunels, and new light displays.
There’s something delicious for everyone at ZooLights, with Hot cocoa, Elephant ears and Mini hot donuts, dinner specials, and oregon craft beer and wine.
